Second Tournament with the Deathskulls

I played in the second tournament with the Deathskulls on November 20th at the CSP. Overall I did ok, but once again in game 3 I gave some points away needlessly, against a good player none the less. I am still in the testing phase of the Orksies but this is still no excuse for bad play. Anyhow on to the report.

Game One: I played a dude named Thomas. He was playing a low model Chaos army with the obligatory 2 obliterator units and plague marines. I was in HTH turn 2. Massacre 20-0 good guys (orks)

Game Two: I played Tim Boarder and he plays an especially lethal brand of Sisters and with 3 "Piano Tanks" and lots of mech. Further more he has become quite the good player, also he has a grudge against me still for all the previous beatings I have given him over the years so he takes great pleasure in crushing me any time he can.The game was really tight the first 3 turns, then on turn 4 Tim was the victim of a very bad dice roll to pin a unit of his in the middle of the board giving me a spring board for which to launch my assaults without taking many shots. Major Victory 17-3 good guys (orks)

So going into game 3 I am in second place by 2 points to Jason Garner and I have to play him and his dark eldar the 3rd and final round, which is fine with me because thats just how I like it. I like controlling my own destiny, I like being the one to win or lose it for me, well on this day I decided to lose it I guess. I got crushed, I was outplayed, out armyed, and generally sucked all around. Massacre 0-20 bad guys (dark eldar)

So I finished 3rd with 37 out of 60 points. Next time I need to add more shooting to the mix, and use the HTH as clean up.

First Tournament with the deathskulls

I went to my first tournament with the deathskulls on Sat September 25th, it was a Rogue Trader put on by Dan Corbett (www.thechaptermastersadvisor.com) and hosted at Comic Shop Plus (www.comicshopplus.com). It was the first in a series of tournaments Dan and the CSP will be holding to determine an overall top 16 invite by points tournament. I feel real good about how I did, I feel like I gave some points away in game 2, but as it is with new armies and tactics.

Game one I played a gentelman named Chris Haynes playing sisters of battle. Man I looked across at 3 exsorsists and Man I was shaking. fortuneatly I got first turn and gave him very little time to get any shots off, HTH is what orksies do best. The game went in my favor for my first win of the day. Massacure

Game two I played Dave Semons with his tyranids of doom, man it was rough. His termagant making machines were on like wildfire and I had to mow through them all game, and because Dave is a good tactician he just made more and more of them to put in my way. I lost unfortuneatly not by much, but as they say a loss is a loss. Minor loss.

Game 3 I played a guy playing Blood Angel mech. He didnt realize that opened toped vehicles allowed their cargo to disembark from anywhere around the vehicle and he left his stuff a little close and bam win for me. Major win.

So all in all 2 wins and a loss not bad I guess, I will have to work on my tactics for next time.

The Deathskulls are coming along

I am at work as I write this however I plan on posting more pictures tonight. I have been frantically painting Ork after Ork after Ork for about a month and a half now and man I am no where near close to done! One of my close friends and Judges is running a RTT at the end of the month and at one time in my very gullible age I thought I might have 80-90% of the army done, now however 40-50% seems more likely. I have got to say however I am having a blast playing Orks. Painting them, modelling them, Gaming with them have all went well above my expectations. As many of you know I played Eldar for 18+yrs and I cannot recall having more fun with an army as I have had with Orks, not even with the Eldar. I think what really makes it the most enjoyable is I find myself laughing and smiling when I model and paint them because honestly I am not sure you can put to many grots on something that is orky. looking back over the years of gaming (at various levels) I remember thinking many times while playing ork players "how in the world are they having so much fun they are losing horribly" And then it hit me the other day while painting up a battlewagon, THEY DIDN'T REALLY CARE IF THEY WON OR LOST, they would probably prefer it but overall to Ork players I don't think it matters that much. They are to busy laughing when their trukk runs through the Woods and crashes or their weirdboy blows them up, or the shokk attakk gun sucking in half their army, that is why it is so relaxing for them. I must say I have never been so happy to be apart of a fraternity as I am to be part of the WHHHAAAAAAAA!
